Frequently asked questions...
How will my first session work?
Your first session will be an assessment to determine the problems you want help with, the goals you want to achieve, and for us to start to formulate a treatment plan. It’s normal to feel anxious before a first session, and I can arrange a briefer phone call prior to your first appointment to introduce myself and discuss your potential therapy, even before you book your first session.
Is it okay to have therapy online?
Many people find online therapy an effective and helpful way of engaging in treatment. While therapeutic interventions have in the past been traditionally in-person many people find it a more comfortable and accessible way to work on their mental health. The necessity of this way of working during the pandemic has made this method a common way to offer support. However, if you prefer face-to-face this can be provided in the South Buckinghamshire and Greater West London areas.
Is it confidential?
Your sessions are completely confidential, though as with all therapists I have frequent discussions with a clinical supervisor who also maintains strict confidentiality. Confidentiality would only be breached if there were concerns about a person’s safety.
Why do I feel nervous about therapy?
Thinking about having therapy or attending a consultation can feel anxiety-provoking - this is completely normal. Anything new can make us nervous, especially when it involves our emotions or meeting a new person. A warm, empathic, compassionate, non-judgemental therapeutic environment is of the utmost importance to me throughout therapy, and I hope will alleviate some nervousness.
